If you are using a check printer manufactured by HP then you will surely have to use the toner provided by HP. Moreover, the toner you use will depend on the type of printer you have. Say you have the Lexmark E320 then, you will have to use the E320 Lexmark MICR toner for printing checks in this machine.
Usually, toner manufacturer will only allow you to fit one of their cartridges to a specific model, therefore you should with the dealer before purchasing any.
